Mt. Jiri | Hiking in Korea

September 27, 2009

The company I work for organizes hiking tours throughout the country every month for staff and friends. Korea has no shortage of mountains so it can prove to be a pretty worthwhile experience. I decided to tag along this time and below are some pics I took from yesterday’s jaunt. As you can tell from the third shot down, the trail wasn’t very forgiving. The route we took was apparently the easiest. It took six hours. My co-worker was telling me the longest trail is over 40 kilometers and takes a good two full days to reach the summit.

Mt. Jiri is a four-hour bus ride from Seoul and is one of Korea’s three highest mountain ranges.

Hi Greg, I was browsing and saw your website. May I know how did you get from Seoul to Mt Jiri? You mentioned ~4 hours bus ride. Any tips, which bus or how to get there? I will be there this Fall. Am very keen to go to Jiri for 2 nights.

Thank you very much! But with scenery that nice, they pretty much photographed themselves. :)

Cheers. Hands down, the nicest mountain I’ve been to so far. Although, Taebaeksan comes close.

I like the pictures as well. Jirisan is a nice place to go hiking but Soraksan is still my favorite mountain in Korea.
