Kring | Creative Culture Space
A short ten-minute walk from Gangnam’s COEX, just south of the Hangang River, is Kring, a towering structure that rises well above the surrounding buildings. With an exterior made up largely of glinting metal, this particular building is the city’s answer to post-modernistic design.
Lofty, airy, funky, bold, vibrant, absurd, but above all else introspective in its own right, Kring is essentially an amalgamation of different approaches, all molded in to one giant mélange of creative expression. Both inside and out, there’s a healthy mix of glass, steel and wood. All levels of the building feature a distinctive theme. The ground floor features the Atrium & Art Space, which looks like the cockpit of the Star Trek Enterprise. There’s also the conference room nearby, which is a little more subdued in nature. Moving to the second floor, we find the Vintage Hall and Kring Hall, both beautifully spacious exhibition halls replete with parquet flooring and balanced lighting for artists to proudly display their work. The lounge area just outside the exhibition halls features a nice little café bar and large seating area. On the third floor, there’s the ‘Lifestyle Zone’ – a trendy little area with oblong red benches where couples or friends can sit and mingle. Above that is the rooftop that boasts the funky looking Sky garden.
Getting there: Get on subway Line 2 and take it to Samseong Station. Hop out exit 4, hang a u-turn and keep walking straight. Kring is short distance away, just past the Porsche dealership.
Additional info: There are a series of ongoing exhibitions and movies playing at Kring. It’s best to check out the website or give them a call (02-2051-4921 or 02-557-8898) to get the latest updates. Admission is free.
