The Swell Season in Seoul

January 18, 2009

Last night’s concert at Sejong Arts Center was amazing. The set included all the gems featured in the movie “Once” and a dozen or so more from Glen Hasard’s band The Frames. The violinist, Colm Mac Con Iomaire, even gave a solo performance which was outstanding – he played a form of celtic music with a delay pedal. The duo from the movie have their own band, The Swell Season, and both, Hasard and Marketa Irglova, did several duets which were brilliant. Irglova was at Starbuck’s before the show and walked right past us. I didn’t realize it until she was well outside on her way back to the rehearsal. They all played for two hours straight and Hasard, the quintessential showman, even brought his younger brother up to play one of his songs. Go have a peek at “Say It To Me Now” performed in Toronto a little while back at an earlier show.

I snapped the photo below during the group’s encore as everyone was moving to the stage to get a closer look.
