My duties brought me to the southern coastal retreat of Jindo - a paradise of fresh fish and charming local hospitality. I was there photographing for a KTO article I am working on regarding the famous annual ‘Moses Miracle’. The event brings thousands of Koreans and hordes of Japanese every spring to witness the dividing tides that split the sea in two, forming a narrow walkway to the distant island of Modo. Also on hand are several ritualistic and spiritual ceremonies that are spectacular including Jindo Dasiraegi (a performance to console people who have lost family members) and the upbeat and rhythmical Jindo Bungor and Sopogeolgun Nongak (the latter being a song sung by soldiers who went scouting the enemy camp during the Imjin War).
